Haunted bathrooms of Malaga elementary

This is a very local legend that has been circulating for years. A haunted bathroom and tales of a relocated cemetery fuel the imagination of the school community. But one wonders, was it their imagination after all?

So, let me share a little backstory: I attended Malaga Elementary from kindergarten all the way up to 5th grade, which was during the mid-80s. During those years, there were some abandoned bathrooms located at the back of the school, nestled near a sprawling large field. Interestingly enough, these restrooms remained out of use throughout my time there.

The rumor was that the restrooms were closed because they were so haunted. One of my friends said that when he threw a small rock through an open window, it made a huge noise – as if he had thrown a boulder instead of a small rock.

According to accounts from other local children who dared to venture near the bathrooms after school, there were alleged reports of peculiar sounds emanating from within. Particularly in the men’s restroom, unsettling noises such as moans and screams seemed to reverberate off the walls, sending shivers down their spines. The most frequently mentioned sound that filled the air was the distinct rattling of chains, adding an extra layer of mystery and intrigue to these eerie encounters.

There are other urban legends about Malaga, like the playground was once a cemetery that was relocated to make way for the school. Another version of this legend that I have heard is that the tombstones were just taken away. The ones laid to rest remained at rest, still under the playground equipment.

Several children have claimed that under perfect sunlight, the shadows of ground indentations align flawlessly, resembling the precise arrangement of a cemetery. However, it is important to note that these claims remain unverified allegations at this point in time.

Undoubtedly, these kinds of stories are highly improbable, particularly regarding the relocation of the elementary school or playground. However, even the idea of haunted bathrooms could have potentially contributed to their closure for a multitude of reasons. It is important to emphasize that paranormal activity was certainly not one of those factors taken into consideration.

However, it is important to recall that this occurred long before the advent of the technological distractions we rely on today. In the 1980s, recess was filled solely with the power of our imaginations and the cherished companionship we shared.

But on the other hand there may be somthing to the paranormal stories.

Nestled within the embrace of time, the town of Malaga reveals its long and intriguing history dating back to the mid-1800s. Rooted in a thriving agricultural industry and propelled by the iron tracks of a transformative railway slicing through California’s landscape, Malaga emerged as a testament to resilience. Yet, despite its enduring legacy, the annals of this enigmatic town remain shrouded in mystery and elusive fragments, leaving us with only vague glimpses into its captivating past.

So no one knows for sure what happened at the site of the “haunted restrooms” all those years ago.

A child’s overactive imagination, on the other hand, would be willing to fill in the gaps of the elusive past with their own narrative. Perhaps they have heard something while exploring the locally infamous bathrooms, allowing their vivid imagination to conjure up stories and legends that add an air of intrigue to Malaga’s history.

Or perhaps, these children did indeed hear something intriguing.

Let us know what you think.
